Food For Thought Luncheon Lecture Series

James F. Simon is the author of seven books on American history, law, and politics. His most recent book, Lincoln and Chief Justice Taney: Slavery, Secession, and the President's War Powers (Simon & Schuster, 07), has received widespread critical acclaim. Simon also wrote What Kind of Nation and several award-winning judicial biographies and histories. Simon is the Martin Professor of Constitutional Law and Dean Emeritus at New York Law School. A Fort Worth native, he attended Paschal High School. after which he received a B.A. from Yale College and a law degree from the Yale Law School. He has served as correspondent and contributing editor of Time Magazine, specializing in legal affairs.

An Evening of Champions...Sports and Sports Heroes in Literature

A sparkling evening where words have jumped from the pages of classic books and become beautifully decorated tables! Be part of the cast that will enjoy a premier event with fine dining and live music in the Gallery of the Central Library on Friday, October 12, 2007.

2007 Libraryfest

Libraryfest is a free family-oriented festival that showcases the Library in a new and exciting way. The 7th Annual Libraryfest will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2007 in and around the Central Library in downtown Fort Worth. Authors, storytellers, musicians and other interesting folks will be on hand to offer discussions, presentations, workshops and entertainment. The festival attracts a diverse audience from the North Texas area with an annual attendance that has exceeded 8,000 visitors.

The mission of Libraryfest is to build awareness of the many educational and cultural services of the Fort Worth Public Library in a way that generates enthusiasm for reading and learning. Click here to find out about sponsorship opportunities.

Food For Thought Luncheon Lecture Series

"There's no excuse for a dull book, a dull museum, or a dull speech," says Richard Norton Smith, who provides commentary on C-SPAN and The Newshour with Jim Lehrer. Mr. Smith graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1975 with a degree in government. His first major book, Thomas E. Dewey and His Times, was finalist for the 1983 Pulitzer Prize. Currently Mr. Smith is at work on a biography of Nelson Rockefeller. From 1987 through 2006 Mr. Smith served as Director of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Center, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, the Gerald R. Ford Museum and Library, the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

Food For Thought Luncheon Lecture Series

Raymond W. Smock served as the Historian of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983-95, during which time he authored numerous publications on the history of Congress and co-edited the 13-volume documentary series The Booker T. Washington Papers. In his capacity as House Historian he was a key planner of the national commemorations of the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution and the bicentennial of Congress. His most recent publications include Masters of the House: Congressional Leadership over Two Centuries, (1998) and Landmark Documents on the U.S. Congress (1999). Smock also served as historical consultant to the National Constitution Center, the first museum dedicated to the U. S. Constitution.
